I'm Travis Koehler, owner of Travis Koehler Writing, LLC, a professional resume-writing and career services business based in Nashville, Tennessee. Before starting my business in 2018, I spent more than 20 years in corporate management, marketing, and leadership, including roles at Gibson Guitar Corporation and Starbucks Corporation.
Those years shaped much of how I approach my work today. Corporate management gave me a practical understanding of organizational performance, leadership responsibilities, business development, and the challenges professionals face as their careers progress. I learned that someone’s value to an organization isn’t always reflected in their job title or the responsibilities outlined in their position description. Often, the most meaningful contributions are found in the decisions they make, the problems they solve, the people they develop, and the improvements they leave behind.
That perspective eventually led me into professional resume writing. I recognized that many accomplished professionals struggle to articulate the significance of their own experience. When you've spent years managing operations, developing teams, building customer relationships, or navigating organizational challenges, those contributions can start to feel like just another part of your job. Translating them into a compelling professional narrative requires a different perspective on your career.
Today, I work primarily with managers, directors, senior professionals, and executives who want their career materials to communicate more than a history of employment. My work includes professional resume writing, LinkedIn profile optimization, executive biographies, cover letters, interview coaching, and comprehensive career branding. While each service serves a different purpose, the underlying objective remains the same: helping people communicate their experience accurately, thoughtfully, and effectively.
My approach is personal and collaborative. I take the time to understand the person behind the resume, including their career progression, accomplishments, leadership experience, and future ambitions. I ask questions, explore details that might otherwise be overlooked, and look for connections between someone's experience and the opportunities they want to pursue. Some of the most valuable information emerges during conversations about work that initially seemed too routine or unremarkable to mention.

I also believe there is a meaningful difference between writing that sounds impressive and writing that communicates genuine professional value. Strong career materials should be clear, credible, and grounded in real experience. I have little interest in filling a resume with fashionable terminology or exaggerated claims that a client would struggle to explain in an interview. I’d rather develop a thoughtful, compelling presentation of what someone has genuinely accomplished.
My academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, along with professional certifications in resume writing, interview coaching, and technical writing. I am a Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW) and have remained professionally involved with the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches (PARW/CC) and the National Resume Writers' Association (NRWA). Continuing professional development has been an important part of my career, especially as recruiting practices, technology, and employer expectations continue to evolve.
One aspect of running TK Writing that I particularly enjoy is working directly with my clients. From our initial conversation through developing and refining their materials, I remain personally involved in the process. It lets me understand their professional backgrounds more deeply, recognize the experiences that distinguish them, and develop writing that reflects their individual strengths and personalities. I have deliberately kept that personal relationship at the center of my business.
Outside of professional writing, I’m interested in photography and music. Both offer opportunities for creativity and expression, and both have deepened my appreciation for composition, perspective, and storytelling. Photography, in particular, has taught me to notice details that might initially go unnoticed and understand how they contribute to the larger picture. Much of the same thinking applies to writing about someone's professional experience.
Over the years, working with people from different industries, organizations, and professional backgrounds has reinforced something I learned during my corporate career: no two careers develop in quite the same way. People arrive at similar positions through very different experiences, and their professional accomplishments deserve to be understood within that context.
That is what continues to make this work rewarding for me. I enjoy learning about the careers people have built, understanding the challenges they have overcome, and helping them recognize the significance of contributions they may have taken for granted.
I established Travis Koehler Writing with the belief that effective professional communication begins with understanding the person behind the experience. That principle still guides my work today, whether I'm developing a resume, preparing someone for an interview, or helping an established professional consider the next chapter of their career.
