I already have a resume. Why should I hire a Certified Professional Resume Writer?

Having a resume is a starting point. The more important question is whether the document accurately communicates the professional you are today and the value you can bring to your next employer.

As a Certified Professional Resume Writer and Certified Technical Writer, Travis helps identify accomplishments, measurable results, career progression, leadership, scope, and other evidence that may be missing or underdeveloped in your current resume.

Professional resume writing is not simply editing existing sentences. It involves deciding what deserves emphasis, what should be reduced or removed, and how your experience should be positioned for the opportunities you want next.

What should a professional resume writer actually do?

A professional resume writer should help you uncover and communicate the evidence behind your career.

That includes understanding your target positions, identifying meaningful accomplishments, developing measurable results, clarifying career progression, evaluating relevant skills and keywords, organizing your employment history, and creating a professional document that works for both recruiters and modern recruiting technology.

A writer should also know what not to include. A resume is a targeted career-marketing document, not a complete archive of everything you have ever done.

What is an ATS-friendly resume?

An Applicant Tracking System, or ATS, is software employers use to collect, organize, search, and manage job applications.

An ATS-friendly resume uses clear structure, recognizable section headings, accurate employment information, relevant terminology, appropriate skills, and readable formatting.

There is no single resume design guaranteed to perform identically in every ATS. The goal is to create a resume that can function effectively within modern recruiting systems while still being compelling and easy for a recruiter or hiring manager to read.

Do you guarantee that my resume will pass an ATS?

No ethical resume writer can guarantee that a document will perform the same way in every Applicant Tracking System.

ATS platforms differ by employer, configuration, recruiting process, and technology. TK Writing focuses on sound resume structure, relevant terminology, clear formatting, accurate skills, and alignment with target opportunities rather than promoting ATS tricks or guarantees.

Can AI write my resume?

AI can be useful for brainstorming, organizing information, identifying terminology, reviewing job descriptions, and improving drafts.

What AI cannot independently verify is whether the finished document accurately represents your career.

It does not know whether an accomplishment is overstated, whether a number is correct, whether an important part of your experience is missing, or whether polished language genuinely reflects the level at which you operate.

Professional resume development uses technology where it adds value while keeping your actual experience, accomplishments, judgment, and career direction at the center of the document.

Can you review a resume I created with AI?

Yes.

An AI-assisted resume can still benefit from a professional review for accuracy, specificity, positioning, measurable impact, career progression, readability, ATS considerations, and whether the document sounds credible and authentic.

TK Writing also offers a complimentary Professional Resume Assessment if you would like an objective review before deciding whether you need a complete rewrite.

What is the free Resume Assessment?

The complimentary Resume Assessment is an initial professional review of the resume you are currently using.

The assessment may consider professional positioning, accomplishments, measurable results, career progression, target-role alignment, readability, formatting, and ATS considerations.

It is not an automated score or generic AI critique, and requesting an assessment does not obligate you to purchase professional resume-writing services.

Why do I need LinkedIn if I already have a resume?

Your resume and LinkedIn profile serve different purposes.

A resume is generally a targeted employment document. LinkedIn is a searchable professional platform that can be viewed by recruiters, hiring managers, colleagues, prospective clients, and professional contacts even when you are not actively applying for a job.

A strong LinkedIn profile can reinforce your professional positioning, communicate accomplishments and expertise, strengthen your visibility, and make it easier for people to understand what you do.

The two should complement one another without simply duplicating the same content.

What is included in LinkedIn Profile Optimization?

LinkedIn Profile Optimization is $349 and includes a review of your existing profile and career materials, professional positioning, headline development, customized About-section writing, experience-section optimization, accomplishment enhancement, skills and keyword strategy, profile-completeness recommendations, and guidance for strengthening professional visibility.

The goal is to align your LinkedIn presence with your resume and broader career direction while making effective use of LinkedIn as a professional search and networking platform.

Why should I consider professional interview coaching?

An interview requires you to do something your resume cannot do for you: explain the story behind your experience.

Interview Coaching helps you prepare to discuss accomplishments, leadership, difficult decisions, career transitions, conflict, challenges, measurable results, and other situations employers may explore.

The objective is not to memorize scripted responses. It is to develop enough command of your own career evidence that you can respond clearly and naturally when questions are asked in different ways.

What happens during an Interview Coaching session?

Interview Coaching is tailored to your career level, goals, and upcoming opportunities.

A session may include your professional introduction, behavioral and situational questions, accomplishment stories, management or executive-level questions, difficult career topics, career-transition explanations, questions to ask an employer, or preparation for a specific interview.

Individual sessions are $99. A three-session package is $297.

Do you provide executive interview coaching?

Yes.

Executive interview preparation may address strategic leadership, P&L responsibility, organizational transformation, stakeholder management, talent development, difficult decisions, enterprise impact, board interaction, change leadership, and other issues typically explored during senior-level interviews.

How many Interview Coaching sessions do I need?

That depends on what you need to accomplish.

A single session may be appropriate if you have a specific upcoming interview or one area you want to strengthen.

Three sessions allow for a more comprehensive process: developing your overall interview positioning and accomplishment stories, working through behavioral and leadership scenarios, and then applying that preparation to a particular employer or opportunity.

What is a professional biography, and how is it different from a resume?

A resume organizes career evidence for employment-related evaluation.

A professional biography tells the broader narrative behind the career.

It can provide additional context around leadership, career progression, expertise, accomplishments, professional philosophy, and reputation. Biographies may be useful for company websites, speaking engagements, professional associations, board opportunities, leadership introductions, consulting, and other professional purposes.

Professional Biography Writing is $99.

Do I really need a cover letter?

Not every application requires a cover letter.

A cover letter can be particularly useful when an employer requests one, when you are pursuing an important opportunity, when you are changing careers or industries, or when your background requires context that is difficult to communicate through a resume alone.

A strong cover letter should not repeat your resume. It should explain why your experience makes sense for a particular opportunity.

Professional Cover Letter Writing is $99.

Do you work with executives?

Yes.

TK Writing works with professionals across career levels, including managers, directors, senior leaders, and executives.

As career seniority increases, resume and career positioning often need to place greater emphasis on organizational scope, leadership, financial responsibility, strategic decision-making, transformation, market impact, talent development, and results achieved through other people.

Do you work with recent college graduates and early-career professionals?

Yes.

Early-career professionals may not yet have extensive employment histories, but they can still have valuable career evidence through internships, academic projects, part-time employment, leadership, volunteer work, technical skills, campus activities, and early professional accomplishments.

The strategy is different from an executive resume, but the underlying goal is the same: identify credible evidence of value and make it easy for an employer to understand.

Can you help if I am changing careers or industries?

Yes.

Career transitions often require more than changing a few keywords.

The challenge is identifying which parts of your previous experience transfer most strongly, determining what your target market values, addressing genuine skills or experience gaps, and helping the reader understand why the transition makes sense.

Resume Writing, LinkedIn Optimization, Cover Letter Writing, and Interview Coaching can all play different roles in making that transition easier to communicate.

How does the resume-writing process work?

The process begins with an initial consultation to discuss your career, goals, and target opportunities.

You will provide relevant career information, which may include your current resume, target job descriptions, accomplishments, education, certifications, LinkedIn profile, and other supporting information.

From there, the process moves through career discovery, accomplishment development, market and target-role analysis, professional positioning, writing, formatting, client review, and revisions.

The objective is a document that accurately represents your experience and supports the direction you want to pursue next.

What information should I provide for my intake consultation?

Helpful information includes your current resume, if available; two or three representative job descriptions; several target employers if you have identified them; and information about recent accomplishments, promotions, certifications, projects, awards, or expanded responsibilities.

For managers and executives, details about team size, budgets, revenue responsibility, P&L ownership, geographic scope, major initiatives, growth, cost savings, operational improvements, and other measurable outcomes can be particularly useful.

How long will my project take?

Project timelines vary depending on the services selected, complexity of the career history, information available, client responsiveness, and current demand.

The expected timeline is discussed at the beginning of the engagement so both parties understand the project schedule.

Clients are provided time to proof and review their materials before the project is finalized. The current FAQ page specifies a five-business-day proofing period and notes that project timing is established during the initial meeting.

Are revisions included?

Yes.

Resume projects include a complimentary 2-week revision period once your project is complete, so you have time to review the document, verify facts, and request reasonable adjustments.

The goal is to produce strategically written materials that also accurately represent the career you actually lived.

How often should I update my resume?

Rather than waiting until you urgently need a new job, review your resume at least every six months and update it whenever something significant changes.

That may include a promotion, major project, measurable accomplishment, new responsibility, certification, award, new technology, or substantial change in professional scope.

Keeping a record of accomplishments as they happen makes future resume development considerably easier.

Should I update LinkedIn when I update my resume?

Usually, yes.

Your LinkedIn profile does not need to duplicate your resume word for word, but major changes in title, responsibilities, accomplishments, credentials, skills, or career positioning should eventually be reflected there.

A recruiter who reads your resume and then visits LinkedIn should encounter a consistent professional story.

Do I have to live in Nashville to work with TK Writing?

No.

Travis Koehler Writing, LLC is based in Nashville, Tennessee and works with clients throughout the United States.

Resume development, LinkedIn optimization, career consultations, and interview coaching can all be completed virtually.

Why work with a local Nashville resume writer if the service is virtual?

Some clients prefer working with a local professional who understands the broader Nashville and Middle Tennessee employment environment while still developing career materials for a national market.

Nashville professionals increasingly pursue opportunities with local companies, national organizations, regional employers, and remote teams. Your resume should therefore benefit from local familiarity without becoming geographically limited.

Do you work with specific industries?

TK Writing works across industries rather than limiting services to a single profession.

The process is based on understanding the client's target positions, professional environment, terminology, accomplishments, and business context before the writing begins.

That approach allows the strategy to adapt to different functions and career levels rather than applying the same template to every client.

How much do TK Writing services cost?

Current individual service pricing is:

Professional Resume Writing — $599

Professional Cover Letter — $99

Professional Biography — $99

How do I pay for services?

The current TK Writing FAQ lists Visa®, MasterCard®, American Express®, Discover®, ACH bank transfer, Apple Pay®, and Venmo® as accepted payment methods. Payment is due when the project begins.

Do professional resume writing or interview coaching services guarantee interviews or job offers?

No.

No resume writer or career coach can ethically guarantee an interview, offer, promotion, salary increase, or other employment outcome.

Hiring decisions are influenced by qualifications, competition, market conditions, targeting, networking, compensation, location, interview performance, organizational needs, and many other factors.

Professional career services help you communicate your experience more clearly, strategically, and credibly.

How do I know which service I need?

You don’t need to decide that before contacting TK Writing.

If you already know your resume needs significant work, Professional Resume Writing may be the logical starting point.

If your resume is strong but your online presence is outdated, LinkedIn Optimization may be more appropriate. If youare getting interviews but struggling to communicate your experience, Interview Coaching may deserve priority. If you are preparing for a significant career move and want to develop your complete professional presentation together, the Comprehensive Career Branding Package may be the best fit.

If you are not sure, start with a free confidential consultation or complimentary Resume Assessment.

You can begin in one of two ways.
